This morning National Geographic Endeavour II dropped anchor off the northeast coast of Fernandina Island. Here we had an excursion to Espinosa Point, where we found not only a great amount of Galapagos marine iguanas but also some Galapagos snakes, flightless cormorants, Galapagos sea lions, and Sally Lightfoot crabs.
We walked on rather young lava flows and on organic white-sand beaches while taking in the dramatic view of the Isabela Island volcano and Fernandina’s own volcano called La Cumbre. Afterwards we went in the water to look for marine iguanas nibbling algae-covered rocks, as well as black sea turtles, tropical fish and more.
In the afternoon we took Zodiacs to enjoy the beautiful geological features along the coast of Vicente Roca Point. We took pictures of Galapagos fur seals, flightless cormorants, blue-footed boobies, and black turtles before coming back to the ship. At sunset, we sampled wines as the ship crossed the equator line.
