During our first full day in the Galapagos Islands, we visited Española Island. Española is the southernmost and oldest remaining island. Here we explored two different visitor sites, starting the morning with water activities. We enjoyed the beautiful turquoise waters of Gardner Bay, with its white coralline beach and dark basaltic rocks. We also encountered some unique and charming wildlife, including Galapagos sea lions.
In the afternoon, we continued our day with a navigation along Punta Suarez on the northwestern tip of Española. We concluded with a Zodiac exploration along the same coastline, which holds diverse and abundant wildlife. From the bottom of the cliffs full of sessile invertebrates and “Christmas iguanas”, to the top of the cliffs occupied by a vast number of marine birds (including Nazca boobies and swallow-tailed gulls) it was an eventful excursion.
