Today we spent the day exploring Espanola Island, the most southeasterly island in the archipelago.
National Geographic Endeavour II spent the morning at anchor at the Gardner Bay on the northeastern end of the island from where we departed to snorkel at Gardner Islet. We also visited the nearby coralline sand beach that is home to a colony of Galapagos sea lions.
We repositioned during lunchtime and visited Punta Suarez on the western end of the island, which is home to large aggregations of breeding Nazca boobies along its exposed southern cliffs as well as an excellent place to see the colorful local variation of marine iguana and the endemic Espanola mockingbird and Espanola lava lizard.
