We were greeted with delightful sunny weather this morning for our full day of excursions. We began with a short coach drive, climbing up to the magical ancient town of Erice. Here, we visited the beautiful cathedral, which is quite unusual with its ornate, completely cream-colored ceiling. We were treated to a gentle walk through the town, including several gorgeous vista points providing panoramas of the island below.
Next, we made our way to Marsala and learned about ancient sea fairing techniques at the archeological museum. The museum houses two impressive reconstructions of ships hulls discovered not far from the coast. After a pleasant Sunday stroll through the town of Marsala, we arrived at the Cantine Pellegrino Winery for lunch. After, we took a tour of the wine cellar, including tasting of the lesser-known dry marsala wine poured straight from a cellar barrel.
On the return to the ship, we completed our explorations with a visit to one of the windmill-sprinkled salt fields that are characteristic of the region.
