Blue skies and calm winds gave us a great opportunity to go for a combined kayak operation and Zodiac cruise this morning. We explored the impressive Drygalski Ice Tongue, a big ice floe that stretches 70 km, or 43 miles, out to sea from David Glacier in the McMurdo Sound.
The stunning scenery made this morning more than amazing, and we followed up on that with a polar plunge for those who wanted a second round.
After a short relocation we went for an afternoon at the beautiful Cape Russell on Inexpressible Island. The beach was full of resting Weddell seals on the fast ice and Adelie penguins from the nearby colony were seen everywhere. The sun was shining and we saw a couple of sunburnt noses as our guests were making their way back to the ship.
There is not enough to be said for the views after dinner. It was lovely to see so many out on the decks, enjoying the mirror blank waters and the last views of the Ice Tongue as the bridge team navigated us towards the exciting events that tomorrow will bring.
