Today was the first day of our 5500-nautical-mile voyage from Palau in Micronesia to Tahiti, French Polynesia — a twenty-three-day expedition through a lei of Pacific Islands, each rich in unique culture and history.
It was a day at sea on National Geographic Resolution, and Captain Martin Graser and his bridge team steadied this grand ship through the peaceful Philippine Sea en route to the island of Guam. It was a relaxing day for guests as they familiarized themselves with their home away from home.
With the galley, bar, and restaurant staff, hotel director Juan-Sebastian wowed guests with exquisite cuisine and beverages throughout the day. Photo instructor Michael Nolan and National Geographic photo expert Nitye Sood gave presentations in the Ice Lounge. Visiting scientists Andrian and Jun Jet Tai and Grosvenor Teacher Fellow Kelly set up workstations in the elaborate Science Hub in the den on deck eight. On the outer decks, birders Santiago and Brett were busy observing as varieties of their favorite birds surrounded the ship, much to the joy of our guests.
The evening was capped off with a brilliant sunset off the ship’s stern, which sent rays through the windows of the Ice Lounge as the captain welcomed guests aboard at a cocktail party. Today was a wonderful way to ease into an exciting expedition.
