This morning, we awoke docked in bustling Phnom Penh. Our photography enthusiasts went on a sunrise excursion with Anna M. to photograph Wat Ounalom in the dawn light. We were joined on board by friend and guest lecturer, Jean-Michel Filippi, for an engaging presentation on modern Cambodian history. Jean-Michel connected the dots within the geopolitical spectrum that led to the rise and eventual fall of the Khmer Rouge, helping answer our questions surrounding what “justice” looks like today in modern Cambodia.
As we crossed the border and went through immigration, we spent the afternoon relaxing on the ship. We enjoyed activities that ranged from a cooking class to a behind-the-scenes tour of the ship with Voant and Smey to fresh coconuts on the terrace. At sunset, we cruised through the scenic, manmade Tan Chau Canal with our new Vietnamese guides, Tai and Tri.
