Last night we anchored in front of Bartholomew Island and this morning we went ashore for a pre-breakfast outing. We climbed to the top of the island, and at the top we observed the most beautiful and well-known view of the Galapagos.
Bartholomew Island also is famous for great snorkeling and the presence of a small Galapagos penguin population. After breakfast we headed out to explore the underwater realm and found different types of fish, and marine invertebrates such as panamic cushion sea stars, sea urchins and even a white-tipped reef shark.
At this site, we also had the chance to ride in the glass bottom boat and enjoy the marine life of the archipelago while enjoying the landscape around us. We had very good weather; skies were blue, it was sunny and breezy.
During the afternoon we went to another place, Chinese Hat. Here we went snorkeling from Zodiacs along the coast. We saw several species of fish; one of the surprises this afternoon was to encounter a large Galapagos shark slowly swimming around the area. Towards the end of the afternoon we went on a Zodiac ride and found a juvenile penguin and some Galapagos sea lions resting on the shore.
