Aberdeen twixt the Dee and the Don was our destination on the second day of our adventures in Scotland.
Soon after breakfast we headed for our different excursions, which today were three: The Gordon Highlanders Museum or Pitmedden Gardens or the Aberdeenshire Highland Beef Farm. We were fortunate that the rain stayed away until the very end.
The regiment museum was enjoyed and the reenactment of a First World War trench was particularly impressive. The sun shone for the garden visit bringing out the best of the lupins and other flowers. There was also a great forest walk. The farm visit was fascinating, and we were enthralled with Amazing Grace’s story and passion.
We all learned more about the Scottish black-faced sheep and witnessed the shearing of two, including impressive Paddy who came from Ireland.
After a delightful cup of tea and a sampling of Highland cattle sausages and Scottish shortbread, we headed off accompanied by the farmyard moggie to learn about Highland cattle. What wonderful creatures, and to see The Duchess relish her brushing was a real highlight.
It was a splendid day. The afternoon was spent sailing north to our next destination.
