Sabina Allemann

You might think Sabina works as a spy as she holds four passports! She was born in Switzerland before her family immigrated to Canada. Very early on Sabina knew her passion lay in the world of ballet and she left home aged 9 to study at the National Ballet School in Canada. After years of dedicated training she enjoyed a very successful 20-year career, twelve of which were as a principal dancer with the esteemed San Francisco Ballet.

In California, Sabina was introduced to rock climbing by her (now) husband, an Australian expedition doctor and photographer. Her ballet skills made for a quick mastery to this new activity aided by the fact her feet, after years of wearing painful pointe shoes, didn’t hurt at all in tiny tight climbing shoes! After a weekend spent high on the vertical walls of Yosemite, she would have to hide any skin scrapes or bruises from the ballet director who wasn’t so keen about her new passion for the outdoors.

After retiring from the stage spotlight, Sabina was finally able to indulge her love of adventure travel and pursue activities in the outdoor world. She has guided treks in the Himalaya, sea-kayaked the length of Hinchinbrook Island in Australia, climbed a 23,000ft peak in the Tien-Shan mountains and hiked the notoriously grueling Kokoda track in Papua New Guinea.

For the past two decades, after moving to Australia (the fourth passport!), Sabina has worked as a Licensed Massage Therapist in Noosa Heads, Queensland, specializing in remedial, sports and intuitive therapy. She believes body, mind and spiritual health can lead to a more productive and fruitful life and looks forward to sharing this outlook and some wonderful outdoor experiences with our Lindblad guests.
