Richard Maack
A commercial and editorial photographer for over twenty years, Richard Maack is the former Photography Editor of Arizona Highways Magazine, a position he held for over a decade. In his job at the venerable 80-year-old publication, Maack served as the editor for some of the finest landscape photography in the world, including work from photographers like Ansel Adams, David Muench, and Jack Dykinga.
Richard was born in Chicago and developed a love of western history and landscape through the work of photographers such as Ansel Adams and what he saw on the pages of Arizona Highways magazine. In 1981, Richard moved to Arizona, where he divided his time between Arizona Highways, other publications, and a wide variety of corporate clients. In 1996 Richard accepted the position of Photography Editor for Arizona Highways. He continues to work as a photographer for Arizona Highways.
A widely published photographer himself, Maack’s work spans subjects that include: travel, people and lifestyle, landscape, architecture, garden, and wildlife. His photography has appeared in magazines as diverse as Sunset, Newsday, Landscape Architecture, Phoenix Magazine, Phoenix Home & Garden, and, of course, Arizona Highways. Maack is also co-author of the Arizona Highways Guide to Photography. Along with commercial and editorial photography projects, Maack also teaches many photographic workshops annually, both travel and classroom, and loves to share his passion for his subject.
