Assistant Expedition Leader

Keith Nyitray

Keith, who has a degree in environmental resources management, has a long-standing love of the Arctic and boreal environments. An Alaskan since 1979, he has homesteaded land in the Revelation Mountains (140 miles from the nearest road) and has a special interest in wilderness and the interrelationships between geology, climatology, and biology. An avid adventurer, Keith has climbed Denali, broken trail for the Iditarod Sled-Dog Race, and undertaken numerous treks throughout Alaska. An account of his ten-month 1,500-mile Arctic journey through the Brooks Range was published in National Geographic (April 1993). Currently, Keith lives in the SE Alaska community of Sitka where, when he is not working as a naturalist, he is a member of the local salmon-trolling fleet.
