Gale Mead

Gale's lifelong involvement with the ocean, and with exploration, has led her on expeditions worldwide, including Australia, China, Samoa, New Zealand, the Bahamas, Hawaii, Alaska, Greece, the Galapagos, Mexico, Belize, Bermuda, and the U.S. Pacific, Atlantic, and Gulf coasts. She is among the world's most experienced DeepWorker submersible pilots, having logged more than 100 hours to depths up to 1,700 feet.

Scuba certified since 1982, she has participated in underwater research concerning marine mammals, algae, fish, invertebrates, and corals, and is an accomplished underwater videographer. For the past five years, she has been a full time participant in National Geographic Society's Sustainable Seas Expeditions (SSE), as a submersible pilot, writer, videographer, and data manager. Gale serves on the board of the San Diego Oceans Foundation, and on the Marine Technology Society's Manned Submersibles Committee. She holds a Masters degree in Psychology from Washington State University. Gale currently resides in San Diego, California.
