Domenica Guerrero
Domenica was born in the port city of Guayaquil and grew up on a small island called San Cristobal in the Galapagos Islands, surrounded by sea lions and the beach. Her love and curiosity for marine life led her to become certified as a Scuba Diver and freediver, to explore the depths of the marine ecosystems. Growing up in an environment surrounded by visitors from all over the world, she soon discovered her passion for learning about other cultures and languages. In 2017, her interest in sharing with the world her love for the Galapagos led her to become certified as a naturalist guide for the Galapagos National Park.
During her years at university, she volunteered with various environmental education projects aimed at local children, which reinforced island identity and science-based knowledge. For her, environmental education is the key to species conservation, however, there is a gap between scientific knowledge and the local community. Because of this, during her senior year, she led classes on Galapagos pinnipeds in schools to spread knowledge about this species and the importance of its conservation. In 2023 she obtained her degree in Environmental Management in Galapagos, where she also studied languages such as English, Mandarin Chinese, and French. In her free time, she can be found hiking, photographing birds, and spending lots of time at the sea.
