Carlos Romero

Carlos was born in Quito, Ecuador, and grew up in Venezuela, where he lived his childhood and teenage years near the ocean and the tropical rainforest. He returned to Quito to study Biology and specialized in the fauna of Ecuador. His main field of study was Zoology with an emphasis on vertebrates and taxonomy. He has a Doctorate in Biology and is a Specialist in a Master’s program in Ecotourism and natural protected areas management. Carlos also took part, as a research assistant, in various scientific projects with the Biological Sciences Department of Quito’s Polytechnic University. As a result, he published a scientific paper about the bats of the Galapagos Islands and one about the vampire bats of mainland Ecuador. Carlos hobbies include drawing; he illustrated the “Park Warden Manual” used in the Ecuadorean National Parks since 1991. He loves languages and is fluent in Spanish, English, and German. It was his interest in conservation Biology that inspired him, in 1992, to become a naturalist; he started working with Lindblad Expeditions-National Geographic in 1997. As an avid conservationist and animal and nature lover, he has been successfully guiding, leading, educating, and teaching travelers for more than 30 years. He is a certified “Trainer of Trainers” in Environmental Thematic Interpretation as well. As a trained and veteran interpreter, Carlos has been facilitating and encouraging thousands of guests to understand the natural world by proactively learning with fun, humor, passion and by communicating science interestingly and engagingly.

He received his Photo Instructor certification in a multi-day training workshop. Developed and taught by National Geographic and Lindblad Expeditions photographers, the workshop helped him to develop additional insight and skills necessary to help you better understand your camera and the basics of composition – to better capture the moments at the heart of your expedition.
